At the Safflower Clinic we strongly believe in empowering women by listening to and working together with each patient on their unique health care concerns.

Being a woman means so much more than just how your reproductive system functions through menstruation, pregnancy, post-partum or menopause. We take note of your specific symptoms but also how you rate your overall health and how your health concerns may be impacting upon this.

Women’s health conditions such as infertility (bù yùn bù yù), painful periods (tòng jīng) and vaginal discharge (dài xià) were discussed historically in Chinese classical medical texts with specific reference to their signs and symptoms, diagnosis and treatment with acupuncture and/or Chinese herbal medicines.

Today, research suggests that women experiencing period pain (primary dysmenorrhoea) may find that Chinese Herbal Medicine with conventional drug therapy is superior than conventional drug therapy alone.

Women transitioning through menopause may also find Chinese Medicine helpful. Research suggests that acupuncture may be beneficial for women suffering from hot flushes/flashes, menopause-related symptoms and associated reduction in quality of life during menopause. Additionally a systematic review found that perimenopausal and postmenopausal women experiencing sleep disturbances associated with reproductive hormone changes may find significant relief through the use of acupuncture. Research has also found that Chinese Herbal Medicine may be effective for reducing menopausal symptoms.

Many women also experience a range of other health concerns affecting their quality of life including migraines, headaches, other pain related conditions, dry eyes, anxiety, depression, insomnia, constipation and obesity. Further information on these conditions can be found on the relevant health condition pages in this menu.
